Job Description:  Youth Director




Good Hope UMC is seeking a Christ-centered, passionate individual to lead its youth ministries (middle through high school age).  Good Hope is a mission-focused 400 member church located just south of Winston-Salem desiring to expand its offerings with young people.  The church has a strong presence of young families and offers both contemporary and traditional worship services.  Good Hope already has strong, committed volunteers who are excited about expansion and looking for a leader to guide them.  Opportunities for worship leadership available as desired.  The position will be part-time, with the potential for growth as deemed necessary.  The Youth Director is accountable to the Pastor.




  • Born-again Christian, with a deep love of Jesus Christ and commitment to a life of faith embodied in action
  • Must be at least 22 years of age and have good leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Preference given to United Methodists with strong understanding of our theology, tradition, and understanding of practices such as Safe Sanctuaries and commitment to missions
  • Provide written references, agree to a background check, and reference checks




  • Provide a Christ-like example in speech and actions to serve as a role model for all of the youth in the church
  • Regularly attend both worship services
  • Shepherd our youth to actively engage in their faith and spiritual gifts’ journey
  • Provide oversight and leadership to all aspects of the youth ministry (including but not limited to Bible study, social programs, missions/service, worship/fellowship)
  • Plan and participate in weekly (consistent) youth meetings
  • Plan and coordinate special trips for youth (field trips, retreats, etc)
  • Work to increase missions opportunities for youth and continue tradition of Carolina Cross Connection
  • Collaborate with pastor and volunteers to involve youth in church life and in worship leadership
  • Engage in the lives of the youth through appropriate methods of communication, occasional attendance at sporting and school events, etc.
  • Follow the church’s Safe Sanctuary policy and facilitate training for volunteers
  • Actively work for growth of youth ministries of the church (follow-up with visiting and inactive youth)
  • Attend quarterly Church Council meetings and give updates on youth activities and future plans

Free Dinner & Movie Night at Good Hope UMC – 5/29/16



Free Movie Night at Good Hope United Methodist Church

When:  Sunday May 29th @ 6:00 pm

Where:  Good Hope UMC Picnic Shelter

We will have dinner at the picnic shelter, followed by the movie “War Room”.  Bring your yard chairs and blankets. Bring your family and friends and enjoy an evening of fellowship together.

Also, please provide 3-5 pictures to Theresa Reid or Ann McMahan. The deadline is May 22. Graduates will be honored on June 5 at 9:45 am.

Compassionate Care Ministry Orientation  – May 19 at 7:00 pm in the fellowship hall. All interested in serving in this ministry are invited to attend.

The computer downstairs is going to be replaced. If anyone has any documents or files they want to save, please remove them so you can re-install them when the newer computer has been installed.

Children’s Council will meet on May 15 at 3:00 pm to finalize VBS plans. Please make plans to attend.

THERE WILL BE A CALLED COUNCIL MEETING TO CONVENE A CHARGE CONFERENCE AT 6:15 PM AT THE PICNIC SHELTER. The purpose of the charge conference is to approve Dustin James’ return to serve in ministry with the conference. This is an important meeting, please make plans to attend. Other open business will be taken up at the May Council Meeting.

REVIVAL BEGINS AT 7:00 PM with Rev. Charles Kyker and music by Booger Swamp Rhythm Section. The UMM will be serving coffee and doughnuts from5:30-6:30 pm in the fellowship hall.

Mother’s Day is May 8. If you would like to put a name in the Mother’s Day Bulletin (in honor of in memory of), there are envelopes provided in the wooden box in the Church Narthex –  labeled Mother’s Day. Please PRINT names and put a $1.00 for each mother/grandmother’s name, give the envelopes to Rodney Walser.

Backpack Committee would like to thank everyone for their contribution of food items during our Easter Egg Tree Campaign. We gathered 1456 individual food items.

On May 1, there will be a Covered Dish Lunch at 12:00 noon to celebrate Vaudy Byerly’s 90th Birthday.
